Can a modem affect the speed of a router?

answer16

I have cable internet and was thinking about getting a new and powerful wireless router to boost speeds, as my internet seems slow lately. Would my older cable modem affect the internet speed of the new router. (Like would the modem limit how fast my internet could be even with the new router?

yes. no matter how powerful your router is the speed of your internet is determined by the speed the internet is coming into your modem.
